They’re sitting in third, which makes a change from their usual fourth spot tussle. No one was going to challenge Chelsea this season, but the Gunners have looked better. So, can they finally challenge for the title?

There’s a few things that are holding Arsenal back from a Premier League title – and, it is not their manager; although he does need to make changes. Firstly, spending money. You have to spend big if you’re going to challenge for the title. The Londoners are capable of splashing the cash on the players they truly want – Alexis and Ozil for example – and they will need to do it again come the summer. Arsenal cannot risk losing players they desperately want because they have been too tight with the pursestrings.

Arsenal are not the only team who need to sort out their injury problems, but they do need to try to curb them for next season. Injuries put a real strain on the team, especially when there aren’t many options to cover the position. This will significantly help their bid for the title; if they can keep all their best players fit, they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Their comeback this season has been fantastic, considering they were in sixth place in December, but it is not usual for Arsenal to look strong and end up choking before the season finishes. Wenger needs to look into why this is, and why is keeps happening. If he can figure out what causes his team to lose their momentum and stop it, then the title could very easily be theirs.

Getting rid of Arsene Wenger would actually set Arsenal back, I feel. They may not have won the Premier League in the last decade, but how many managers do we see come into the Premier League, and lose their job within a blink of an eye? Loyalty is hard to find for managers now, and it must be commended that Wenger has lasted so long in his job. This is because he is doing something right. But, if he wants to keep it much longer, he needs to be more forceful. His team cannot be throwing away points, and they need to be dominating games.

If Arsenal can splash the cash on some world class players – a more prolific goalscorer for example, which is not what they have in Danny Welbeck, or a more creative midfielder to make more chances – bump up the fitness of their players and keep a winning mentality, what is to stop them from lifting the Premier League trophy?
