THE BIGGER PICTURE
In December 2022, Manuel Neuer, Bayern's first-choice goalkeeper, inexplicably injured his leg while skiing, resulting in a lower leg fracture. The injury saw Neuer out of action for over 10 months.
At the time, Bayern were in negotiations with several goalkeepers, including Schmeichel, who was plying his trade at Ligue 1 outfit Nice. Eventually, they went through with the signing of Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

WHAT KASPER SCHMEICHEL SAID
"Yes, that's true. There were negotiations to go to Bayern after Neuer was injured," Schmeichel told reporters (h/t BILD). "There was agreement on everything. But at the last second it fell through."
"I don't know exactly what happened, but I was already on my way to the airport. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. You would have to ask Bayern what the problem was.
"It would have been a dream to play for such a club. But it wasn't meant to be."
